11/5/05 Saturday. After-dinner. Usually I like to stay away from alcohol, especially whole six-packs of beer. But Mike's Hard Berry is good and it doesn't get me super drunk. Kids, get an adult's supervision before drinking.

11/5/05 Saturday Dinner. Papa John's. Yeah! Git 'r done! This is a veggie delight or something like that. It seriously took an hour and a half to come, even though the store is two blocks away from us. Is that what happens when you live in the ghetto? Does it have to be this way? It's bad enough I'm scared to walk the two blocks to the store, now the deliveryman can't drive it either?

11/5/05 Saturday. Snack. Can you call water a snack? You may think I'm just paying for the label, but even my boyfriend admits he tastes differences between some of the bottled waters. I prefer Fiji, but Evian is a close second.

11/5/05 Saturday Breakfast. We're a little bit late with washing the dishes at my apartment right now. In fact, I searched all around for a plastic spoon before breaking out the Joy and the sponge to wash this spoon. I really didn't want to. That's why my oatmeal and oj are in styrofoam cups. We have a ridiculous amount of these cups accumulating around the apartment, and inside them, a ridiculous amount of mold is accumulating as well. That's why this morning, after eating, I'm going on a cleaning spree. Maybe it won't be so much of a spree as a mini-spree.

11/4/05 Friday Snack. We had a guest, ahem, speaker come to the office today. For his graceful visit, one of the assistants ordered fruit, cake, cookies, brownies and sodas for everyone. I ate a lot of fruit! There was a little line of disgruntled editors and such behind me waiting for the blueberries and stuff.

11/4/05 Friday Breakfast. This morning when I got to work, there was a bag of candy corn on my chair! Someone had surprised me because all week I was complaining of the neaerby Duane Reade running out of candy corn and I was craving it! All day I tried to quiz people about who might have put this in my chair, and in the end I did find him. Thanks again- you know who you are!

11/1/05 Tuesday. Lunch. Immediatley after drinking this soda, I regretted it. The carbonation was too much. Too...much...in...stomach! Not to mention the artificial coloring, flavoring, how much the Coca-Cola company can be blamed for the obesity epidemic...I definitely am drinking too much soda.

10/31/05 Monday Dessert. Wow. After work my boyfriend and I went to the Olive Garden in Times Square. The intent was to see a movie as well but we ate a four-course meal so we didn't have time. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of the artichoke-spinach dip with Tuscan bread, the three types of red wine I tried, or my lasagna entree. I forgot completely in the bliss of eating. But when this dessert of blackberry-raspberry pastry and vanilla ice cream arrived, it looked too good to eat. Then I remembered my camera. Yes, it was as good as it looks.

10/31/05 Monday Lunch. This was good. Definitely good. The broccoli and lettuce was fresh and good for my, um, bowels. It's usually a chore to eat salad, but today for some reason it came naturally. This one has radishes, mesclun greens, chickpeas, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, broccoli, olives, onions and Caesar dressing. I feel good about myself.

10/31/05 Monday Breakfast. Once again with the Tropicana. Orange juice is very quickly becoming my new best friend. When I drink it, my whole day becomes brighter. When I talk to the carton, it gives the best advice. No, um, what I really meant to say was that I just simply love oj. The muffin is banana walnut. I'm pretty addicted to this store near my job called Food Merchants. Some of their employees are jerks and I often have to remind them which one of us, and on which side of the counter, is always right. But their muffins, croissants and the like are always fresh. They just run out by, like, 10 a.m.

10/30/05 Sunday Dinner. This is really bad, but I ate Cocoa Krispies for dinner. Back in my senior year of college, I ate Cocoa Krispies every day for every meal for a number of months, like about 7 months. I seriously ate nothing but Cocoa Krispies. I only drank Fiji water for that same time. This is what I called "the Cocoa Krispies diet" because what resulted was amazing. I went from a size 8 to a size 5, and that's in the same number and wash of Levi's jeans. Because back on my birthday my friend Mitch had stolen me a pair of Levi's that were awesome, and then by graduation, they were way, way too big. So I took them to the Levi's store and asked for the same pair, and much to my astonishment, I was now a size 5. My roommate Cindy was actually doing a whole lot of yoga that year as well, but she didn't lose pants sizes as fast as I did. So, I'm in no way condoning an all-cereal diet, I'm just lettin' ya know what it did for me.

10/30/05 Sunday Lunch. This is a Philly thing. I need to educate you. Wawa is a higher-quality 7/11. People actually trust their sandwiches and even crave them. Their hoagies are unparalleled! Like, seriously! They're all high-tech in Wawas now, with touch-screen computers on which you create your custom order instead of actually talking to the guy throwing around the meat. Their sandwich-makers wear hair nets, no matter how short their hair is. Get the Italian or Turkey Hoagie on Wheat with mayo. Their mayo is homemade I think, and it's the bomb. Today, I went to Wawa (since I miss them in New York) for macaroni and cheese. I knew in advance what my mom would say when I sat down to eat it. Okay, it does look so nasty that I won't put the picture up here, but it tastes soooooooo good! I love mac 'n cheese by the way. If you make it well, please email me and we can discuss my buying some from you. Seriously.

10/30/05 Sunday Breakfast. I slept until 1, since being home is the only time you can do that. I awoke to something very uncommon living in New York- birds chirping in the pear tree outside of my bedroom window. Aw...being in the home where you grew up is an unmeasurable gift. And for breakfast, Cheerios with a sliced banana. I find that fruit really makes Cheerios bearable. Much better than white sugar for you, too.

10/29/05 Saturday Dinner cont'd. This wasn't my cooking, actually. This was my mom's. She makes awesome filet mignons and the best steamed string beans. When I was a kid I hated the string beans though. They are still cruncy and aren't seasoned with anything except their own flavor. Actually, what I used to do is really disgusting. I used to chew them for a while, then when I couldn't swallow them, I'd pretend to go to the bathroom and spit them in the toilet. This I'd do several times during dinner, despite the fact that the whole family was sitting around the table and obviously could hear me. I'm sure they knew what I was doing. We had family dinners my whole life, which was great. Either that, or I'd grab a swig of soda (which wasn't supposed to be allowed until after we finished eating) and wash the string beans down with that. Isn't that gross? But it worked. It's probably why I'm so damn short now, never eating my vegetables.

10/29/05 Saturday Dinner a home-cooked meal finally! My mom made this amazing filet mignon. I guess I'm spoiled because even though filet mignon is the best part of the cow for steak, I routinely turn this dish down because my mom always makes it. Even better is the filet mignon roast that she makes for Thanksgiving and Christmas on the backyard grill. It's like roast beef but all tender and reddish because of the flames. Mmm. I'm not used to home-cooked meals anymore. Well, that's not true. I occasionally cook for my boyfriend and I want to do it more often, but most of the time he cooks for me. It is awesome of him, but I sometimes feel bad for not being "the girl." I'm not so postmodern that it doesn't bother me.

10/29/05 Saturday Lunch It was late by the time I got home to Philly, and a French dude riding next to me on the train had to actually wake me up as the train pulled in to the station. While waiting for the 'rents, I grabbed this Auntie Anne's cinnamon pretzel. They claim that their pretzels are not ridiculously full of fat, but I don't believe it at all. Look how much cinnamon is on this! And those empty spots are just where the oil drenched the cinnamon crystals. Ew! But it does taste good.

10/28/05 Friday After-Party for the After-Party Squared. Four of us went to Rice to Riches, this onetime chic rice pudding bar in Soho. One person in our group lives around the corner from there, so it was the last stop on our freaking insane night. I love this restaurant because the pudding is so good and the flavors are always different. This looks like the Raspberry Statement and the Stubborn Banana. We tried those last night, and we also tried the Secret Life of Pumpkin. My favorite was the Hazelnut Chocolate Bear Hug, but I couldn't finish it. I believe their flavorist was once the dessert and pastry man at nearby Nobu, that uber-trendy place where plebians can never get reservations. The link above is to their new Midtown locale, where they don't yet take lunch reservations! Rice to Riches is rather expensive, but a nice treat for tourists, some of whom we met and frightened last night!

10/28/05 Friday After-Party Party. The house white wine went well with the Margherita pizza. There were 8 glasses and 4 people at the table when we left. The waiters were definitely waiting on us. This is at about 11:30 at night.

10/28/05 Friday Mmmmm...cupcakes! These are my favorite things in the world! Little bats and Fall leaves are so cute as sugary decorations. A food critic's perspective- the cake is heavy but not greasy, and the icing is incredibly light but still indulgent. Three stars.

10/27/05 Thursday Dinner. I think a good smoothie makes a very nutritious and fulfilling dinner. Jamba Juice is my favorite smoothie place because it makes you feel so damn healthy, with all the "free boosts" and whatnot. This is a "Berry Fulfilling" a la Femme Boost. Drinking it on the subway is not super appetizing, though.

10/27/05 Thursday Lunch. My coworker and I went hunting for Halloween costumes at lunch today, and we stumbled on a Papa John's that serves pizza by the slice! Oh my gosh, I hope that development doesn't entice me every day now! I'm so bad with carbs but, hey. This box was only for 2 slices, I swear! It's just...a really...big box, alright?

10/26/05 Wednesday Dinner. Oh my gosh, I cannot emphasize enough the amazingness of Chipotle burritos! These things are fucking awesome! Their guacamole is so fresh it turns brown if you leave it out for more than a half hour. The rice is seasoned with cilantro and lime. The stuff is good, and fast, and only about $7! I go to the one at Bryant Park a lot. Tonight, I was right across the street at the Bryant Park Hotel for a screening of the new Usher movie, In the Mix. Please, save your money. It sucks.

Update from CityRag blog: P.S.- supposedly, Chipotle (owned by McDonald's Corp.) is hiding the fact that their veggie burritos each have more fat and calores than a Big Mac!? I don't want to believe it, man! But it would explain why they're so damned addicting. Anyone know more about this? Please write a comment so we can expose this shit, if it's true.

10/26/05 Wednesday end-of-day. Must take the vitamins. I'm not obsessed with weight, but those ones on the right include green tea extract, which is supposed to boost your metabolism by 10%, thereby burning more calories and carbs. I hate the taste of the stuff, so I try to get it in other ways. Fish body oils, that was part of that fad Jesus diet. They do help move cholesterol through your arteries, though. Am I getting too preachy?

10/26/05 Wednesday Lunch. Never, EVER drink less than 100% juice. You might as well drink that new "diet vanilla cherry pineapple pina colada Pepsi One"! I mean, artificial flavorings, colorings (FD&C Red #40 definitely causes cancer, don't believe the hype. Just because it's in everything does not mean it's safe,), 1/3 water! Why would you pay to put that in your precious body? Gwyneth Paltrow would smack you if you gave it to your child. (She really said that, by the way!) Notice below, the "no sugar added." Like Paris would say, "that's hot."

After-chocolate mints are definitely a good thing! Nobody likes that sweet/bitter, warm smell when you're trying to explain a layout! Or, um, if you're all placing bets on how many months TomKat are pregnant. Only us lowlings do that, of course. The top editors are way, way too busy.
